BYSC Auxiliary Committee Report

WOW!  What a first meeting we had on January 19th!

Over 60 enthusiastic people showed up and enjoyed terrific appetizers and drinks while we gave birth to the new BYSC Auxiliary Committee.  Many thanks to those of you who came and especially to those who contributed the food and helped set up the room.

The purpose of this new committee is:  ”To promote social enjoyment, fellowship, and the general welfare and beautification of the Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club”.  How to best achieve this goal led to a lively and fun discussion with ideas coming fast and furious from all sides of the room.

Multiple sub-committees have already been formed.  The social committee is, of course, one of the main groups umbrella-ed under the Auxiliary and lots of great new potential events were discussed.  Many other wonderful ideas were discussed also. Projects like improving our kitchen and bathrooms, working on beautifying the grounds with planned plantings, improving our membership book and communications, and having an onshore Regatta support team.

I’d like to introduce the new Board of BYSC Auxiliary Committee and thank them for their willingness to help :

Vice President – Lisa Presnell

Secretary – Angie Williams

Treasurer – Kristi Rushing

Social – Carey Kerney

Member – Nelson Brown

President – Sue Hamilton

Please join us at our next monthly meeting on WEDNESDAY, FEB 15th at 6pm.  (Our meetings will usually be the 3rd Thursday of the month, but the clubhouse was rented this month.)   As with our last meeting, this meeting will be designed so that having FUN is a main ingredient while we all work together to keep improving our club.  Stay tuned for details to come soon.

Hope to see you there,

Sue Hamilton

President, BYSC Auxiliary Committee

NEW!!!     NEW!!!    NEW!!!

2012 will mark the beginnings of a new, fun and important committee at BYSC.  Please read on and plan on joining us, January 19th, at the first meeting of this exciting “start-up” of the BYSC Auxiliary Committee.

PURPOSE of the Auxiliary Committee

“To promote social enjoyment, fellowship, and the general welfare and beautification of the Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club.”

The goal of the new committee is to provide a dynamic, fun and interactive role for club members to work together in a vehicle that supports and grows the club’s onshore activities.  We already have the volunteers, talent and enthusiasm.  What we lack is the organization and documentation of all that goes on from year to year, and a dynamic avenue for the club to be used to it’s full potential.  Just so you know, Auxiliary Committees are a huge part of how most yacht clubs are run.

This new Auxiliary will have a Board of it’s own (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, etc), sub-committees as needed, a set of By-laws, a budget, and regularly scheduled meetings that empower individual members and develops a team that works together for the good of the club.  The Auxiliary Board will support and report to the BYSC Board of Directors.

Meetings for the new committee will be the third Thursday of each month, held at the club and in combination with a fun and affordable dinner . . . all organized by the Auxiliary.  Here’s your chance to get really involved, make new friends, share your ideas, and make your own mark on our wonderful club.

It will naturally take time for this committee to grow to it’s full potential, but some areas that I see it encompassing and needing sub-committees to embrace and take charge of right away are as follows:

Major Social Events, First Fridays, Children’s Events

Educational/Entertainment evenings

Afternoon group activities – Bridge, Poker, book clubs, etc.

On-land Regatta Support

Grounds Beautification

Kitchen

Bar

Communications

BYSC Clothing/Merchandise

History of Club

I’ve already had a very positive response from many club members, men and women, who are eager to be part of this new Auxiliary.  Please e-mail me directly if you would like to join in on the fun, all while making your club, the Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club, better than ever!

Look forward to hearing from you!

The club is host to countless events, from impromptu gatherings on the pier head to huge catered soirees with live music.  There is something social happening each week with informal Sunset Fridays every Friday night, First Fridays each month, and numerous organized events throughout the year.  Please check the club calendar to see what is coming up.

Also, the clubhouse is available for members’ use anytime there is no other event scheduled.  Please take a look at the Casual Use Policy for more information and check in with the office if you have questions regarding usage or availability.  The office has key-cards available that you can use to gain access after hours.
